HYDRO THERAPY
Hydro therapy is a form of physiotherapy that
is administered in a special heated pool. The warm
water helps relieve pain and relax the body, so increasing
ease of movement. At the same time, exercising in
water helps build strength, while still supporting
and protecting the muscles and joints.
Pool or Hydro therapy is the safest form of rehab,
especially for weight-bearing injuries, because it
takes place in the buoyancy of water and thereby removes
impact and trauma from weight-bearing on joints. In
pool therapy, the water offers buoyant support for
the body, resistance to bodily movement, a natural
reduction in pain, and a relaxing and refreshing feel.
Combined with traditional land therapy, it offers
the quickest way to return to normal daily activities.
Virtually all injuries benefit from hydro therapy,
rheumatological conditions, including osteo arthritis,
rheumatoid arthritis, ankle and leg sprains and fractures,
pre surgical and post surgical hips, knees, muscle
strains, frozen shoulders, painful necks and backs,
fibromyalgia, archilles and patellar tendinitis.
Benefits include:
- Increased range of motion due to waters buoyancy
- Decreased loading reducing injury to the joint
- Safe arena to progress weight bearing and gait
training
- Muscle relaxation leading to pain relief
- Improvement of power, endurance and stability
